Strix is Latin for owl, a bird that is a symbol of wisdom and vigilance, representing the power of knowledge as well as the righteousness of defence from attack. The owl was associated with the Greek goddess Athena (adopted by the Romans as Minerva) the ancient deity associated with wisdom and learning. She is also the protector of the state and the goddess of rightful war: defence of the homeland.
